Happy Birthday Lilybug!

Today Lily is eight months old. Where did all the time go?? Sometimes I lie down next to her and whisper in her ear, "Slow down! There is no hurry to grow up. Stay my baby as long as you can!!"
I remember being so excited to see Sam do the next thing, make the next milestone, but I don't feel that way with her. I want her to be my baby girl a little longer.

Anywho, while we are discussing pork products, I want to tell you Sam, Lily, and I, along with our friends Elissa and Reagan, took part in an Atlanta tradition this week. We rode the Pink Pig. It was great fun!




We also went to see Santa Claus and Sam did not freak out like he has in the past. Lily wasn't thrilled but didn't cry. Sam asked Santa to bring him "Princess game" for his Leapster (He was playing his cousin Maggie's princess game when we were in Disney World.) As we walked away, he shouted at Santa, "Good boy! Good boy!" like he was thinking "Oh crap, I forgot to tell him I was good!" You can't see that photo because you'll see it on our Christmas card :)

Shout Out

We missed Moseley's 2nd birthday on Nov. 27. Happy Birthday Mose! Can't believe you will be a big brother in one week!!!

The happiest place on earth

We went to Disney World with Mom and Dad to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. It was awesome and nobody wanted the fun to end.

Turning over a new leaf

I have always admired other people's bathrooms with pristine uncluttered counters. I think it goes without saying that mine have NEVER been that way. Well, today is the day! Now my counter is clean and free of all brushes, lotions, soaps, etc. just like you!! "Why this sudden change?", you might ask. "That doesn't sound like the Katie I know."
Well, possibly because I walked into my bathroom today to find Sam using my toothbrush to clean his FEET!!!! Blech!

Sometimes it just takes a little nudge from someone you love to change your ways. Thanks, Sam.

Things I forgot about having an infant

There is always ALWAYS spit-up or slobber on your shoulder (not that you mind though). Note to self: Stop wearing clothes that are dry clean only.

Oh no!

We have somehow managed to lose Ellie the Elephant and Lionel the Lion, Sam's beloved "babies." They have been his constant companions since HE was just a baby. I feel like such a irresponsible parent, losing something that was such a huge part of Sam's babyhood. I wanted to keep them until he loved them to death or give them to his kiddos one day.
If you happen to know the whereabouts of our two lost family members, please let us know. You will be handsomely rewarded with our gratitude :)

Why didn't I think of that?

As you may or may not know, I am a huge fan of the show My Big Redneck Wedding on CMT- that and Dr. Sanjay Gupta. What can I say? I have varied interests :)
Anyway, yesterday I saw an episode in which the bride and groom left the wedding in the General Lee with the bride's father chasing them in Roscoe's sheriff car. I have only one word: AWESOME!!!!
Man, if I could do it all over again....Can't you picture Big Mark behind the wheel of the sheriff car?? I am sure it would have been a first for the folks at Ansley Golf Club!

Little things that bother me

I get so annoyed when people misspell "y'all" (bear with me here, Yankees). It is NOT spelled "ya'll!!" It does not stand for "ya all." The apostrophe takes the place of the letters "ou" in you. So "y'all" means "you all."
Thank you for listening to my rant. Y'all know how I hate bad grammar and the improper spelling of words ;)

Something new

I would like to start something new (hence the original title) on my blog. From time to time, I want to share books that Sam and Lily love with you. In turn, you tell me what books your little one is into. I love learning about new children's books. Then I can have an idea of something to search for at the library instead of wandering the aisles while library- whisper- shouting at Sam to get off the computer and go find a book. So, without further ado, our current favorites:

Helpful Hint

I know you've been sitting around thinking, "What am I going to get Katie for Christmas this year?" And chances are you are not considering the Marc Jacobs flats which I am head-over-heels in lust with- so let me offer you a suggestion:



It is the Bug Vacuum. It sucks up and zaps bugs so you don't have to squish them against the wall, or worse, actually touch them. Must have! We have encountered more bugs in our home than I am comfortable living with so I need to do something about it! This is where you, dear friend and reader, come in.
If you don't want to make any buggy friends when you visit, consider a trip to your nearest As Seen on TV store and help me get rid of these nasty things, one bug at a time!
If you are very nice to me, I will even let you use it ;)

The key to having great skin

is moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. (Man, it took me three tries to spell that correctly!)
Sam came down from his nap yesterday looking like this. He got ahold of some Cetaphil and "did lotion", as he says. He "did" it to his body, clothing, his quilt, pillow, sheets, Lionel, and Monkey. Now I am not one to name names (Andy), but I would suggest parents keep any and all types of lotion out of the reach of a three year old.
I was actually so surprised that I started laughing and couldn't get mad at him!

Is there any bigger time suck that stepping into a cell phone store?
I don't get any service in my house or anywhere else, for that matter, so I thought I would go to the AT&T store to see what I could do about the situation. Every time I go to a cell phone place, the same thing always happens. First of all, there are like 12 people working and all of them are standing around not doing a damn thing. They can't help YOU though; They'll be happy to take your name and get to you when they are not so swamped. Oh, I see...you have to stand around a little, chit chat, check your email, flirt with each other, and head out back for a smoke break before you can say two words to me. Got it.
After about 30 minutes of waiting, some guy comes over, looks up my account in the computer, then says, "Hmm, let me see what I can do about this," and heads to the back, presumably to talk the manager. But I guess I'll never really know since he never came back!! So 15 minutes later, another guy offers to help (after I stare at him with slightly psycho stalkerish expression for a good 10 minutes). I tell him my problem and he looks at my phone and says, "Oh yeah, this phone just doesn't get good reception. You need to buy another one."
"I'm sorry, what? I don't want a new phone. I just want the one that I have to actually work from time to time."
"Well..."
"But I bought this phone from you. And you're saying it doesn't work. And your proposed solution is that I buy ANOTHER phone from you?"
"Well... yes."
"Really?"
(sheepish grin)
"Seriously?!"
"Yes."
"Can't you update the software on it or something?"
"No," handing me an ad, "but if you take it to this place (some shady third party), they probably can."
"How much will that cost?"
"I don't know. Seventy, seventy-five bucks."
"What is the penalty if I cancel my contract?"
"Ummm, eighty dollars."

Sold. Peace out, AT&T.

Visitors!!

Last weekend my folks, Ben, Laura and Matt, and their daughter Charlotte came to visit. It was exciting because most of them hadn't seen our new house yet. We had some friends over on Saturday night for dinner, which was great fun. I also made them do work like hang pictures and put down a rug that had been leaning against the wall for weeks (okay, months). Thanks Mom, Dad, and Laura for your help. Otherwise those things might still be laying around the next time you visit :)

One day Andy and I were in the car and some old hiphop song came on. I was very excited and, turning up the volume, said "Aaah! This song reminds me of high school!!"
He responded, "This song reminds of chess camp!"
I busted out laughing!!!

Please give me the names of books you love. I need something new to read and haven't found anything particularly exciting at the library lately. If you need a good book to read, check out A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. It is one of my favorite books and Ignatius J. Reilly is a riot!

Pesky pronouns

When Sam wants me to pick him up, he says "Mommy, me hold you? Me hold you?" I never correct him because it sounds so sweet. It just makes me smile. I want to remember it just like that long after he doesn't want to be held anymore.

UGA (not so great)GameDay

We took the monsters to Athens to tailgate for the Georgia v. Alabama game on Saturday. It was great fun even though Georgia lost. It was Lily's first tailgate. Sam, however, is a seasoned Bulldawg, having made his first tailgate appearance at just seven weeks old, the next at Homecoming 2006 (when Vanderbilt BEAT UGA, I might add) at 1 year old, and his first game shortly after that when we snuck him into the Georgia v. Florida game in Jacksonville. Such responsible parenting...
Lily was totally unimpressed and seemed rather annoyed with the noise and all the other people. When people were watching another game on TV (Was it Ole Miss v. Florida?) and would cheer loudly, she would just wail and cry. I have a feeling my beautiful daughter is not a party gal! Now who I am going to pass my "Good Time Girl" title down to? Maybe my niece Molly... ;)
Sam had a ball though. We tailgated with Amber and Dustin, friends from UGA, and folks Dustin works with. What a setup! Besides all the fun adult party stuff, they brought markers, paints, paper, stickers, playdoh, balls, and inflatable toys for the kids to play with. Someone even brought their baby swing! So everyone had a great time and we met a lot of good people. Sam played with other kids he met but mostly spent time painting with a Hannah Montana glitter paint set!
We even made the uphill trek from South Campus all the way to North Campus (which is a loooong way) while pulling Sam in a wagon and pushing Lily in her stroller. Not easy to do while navigating crowds and balancing a beer in one hand. (See above about mad parenting skills.) It was nice to see some people we haven't seen in a while.
We stayed with Amber and Dustin in their gorgeous new home. And now we are all jealous. Even Sam.
Me: Sam, what do you think of Amber and Dustin's house?
Sam: Ummm (pausing to think), it good.
Me: Is it better than our house?
Sam: (no hesitation) Yes!
Of course it is. They have horses and their very own restaurant right next door!

Thanks, Amber and Dustin. We had so much fun. Sam already wants to come back to your house!

Savannah friends

Last weekend our friends from Savannah, Christina, Dean, and their kids came to visit. It was so good to see them and meet their little one- baby Sam. What a cutie! Our Sam had so much fun with their girls, Kennedy and Cate. It was his first slumber party! We put the air mattress up in his room and we could hear them all up there monkeying around long after bedtime. Sam likes the air mattress so much that he won't let us put it away and still sleeps on it every night. I miss my Savannah Mom friends- best Mom's groups EVER!!!

Sam decided to take a disco nap at 6 pm before his party. He would not wake up....until 9:15. So he had some pizza




and was so excited for his birthday cake! He wouldn't even let us sing "Happy Birthday" or put candles on his cake. I do not know how Andy and I got such a party pooper for a kid!!

Lilybug

I feel like I talk about Mister all the time so I decided it's time to catch up with Lily. She is 5 months old today. Happy Birthday baby girl!! She is as happy as a clam except when she is hungry, then she gets downright mean. She doesn't miss a meal. She eats every 3 hours and starts crying right at the third hour like a little alarm clock. She giggles- mostly at Andy, Sam, and the carpet guy at Home Depot (?)-drools A LOT, puts everything in her mouth (if only she could put that binkie back in after she has yanked it out), grabs and holds her toes, and rolls over. She has started to pay attention to her toys and try to reach them. Her face absolutely lights up when Sam enters the room and her eyes follow his every move. I love to watch her watch him because the look on her face is the closest thing to pure adoration I've ever seen. It gives my heart a little squeeze. My beautiful babies!
